I was drawn to reading this memoir from Lou Sanders because she’s my age and comes from Broadstairs and has spent most of her life drinking too much.
As well as lots of laughs, she explores shame, female shame, where it comes from and how she got stuck in it then got over it.
A great intro to her oeuvre is via her interviews on Daisy Buchanan’s You’re Booked podcast - Lou appears twice, in her own episode, and in a live recording from the Margate Bookie with fellow author and comedian Andi Osho. Both are well worth a listen, as is the rest of the brilliant podcast for book lovers.
